About the Clinton Historical Tour

Welcome to the Clinton Historical Tour. You may begin this tour at any landmark, but we recommend you begin by parking your vehicle at the Clinton Train Depot, located at 281 East Leake Street. You’ll then begin the tour at landmark #1, Walter Hillman.

Acknowledgements

This tour is made possible by a grant from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.

Thanks to Dr. Walter Howell, former mayor and current city historian. The rich history of Clinton is catalogued in a number of publications as well as his recent book Town and Gown: the Saga of Clinton and Mississippi College, a comprehensive and fascinating look at the partnership between city and college over nearly two centuries.

Clinton Visitor’s Center

The beautiful Clinton Visitors Center is a great place to stop if you are new to town. The center includes a small museum (more history!), free coffee, a long porch with rocking chairs, and friendly people who can answer any questions you might have about our city. We’re open seven days a week and look forward to seeing you.
